Gabi’s been suffering from dementia for more than two years, the impairment of cognitive function has led to impairment in performing basic daily activities and in identifying people and objects. The family's excitement about the photos could not be ignored. After the first visit came the second one and I continued to come whenever possible. I tend to think about how the disease affects the surroundings. Not what the patient goes through, but what those who live around him go through. He may be losing his grip but they are present in each and every moment in the decline. That day my aunt’s request was of no great importance to me, how could it, until I understood the significance of documenting last moments of sanity, such rare points of light before the darkness. Sometimes you find yourself in a place or a moment and you do not grasp the reality until you see the whole story as soon as it is immortalized in the picture.
